Become a member of The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Analysis

Eliza Steinbock, incoming advisory board member of The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Analysis (NICA) representing Maastricht University, welcomes research master’s students, PhD candidates and senior scholars to become a member of NICA.

In case of questions about NICA, please contact Eliza at e.steinbock@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

NICA is a national research school dedicated to the academic study of contemporary culture from an interdisciplinary, theoretical, and political perspective. The school offers graduate courses and other events for research master students and PhD-candidates. Presently based at the Leiden University, the school welcomes the participation and membership of ResMA students, PhD candidates and senior scholars of all Dutch universities.

NICA’s educational programme offers:

  • a research-intensive, interactive, and highly interdisciplinary programme with state of the arts topics and speakers, and great international appeal;
  • a good opportunity to get to know researchers in all stages of their careers, as well as fellow ResMA students and PhD-candidates working at other universities in the field cultural analysis across the Netherlands, as well as abroad;
  • an internationally renowned institutional affiliation
  • our support for the realisation of your ideas for workshops, master classes and other events (see: ‘Organise an activity’).

On behalf of NICA, Eliza would like to invite ResMA- and PhD-students as well as staff members of FASoS to affiliate to NICA. Becoming a member at NICA allows you to participate in NICA-events and courses, but you will also be able to join in the events of other Dutch research schools.

If you are a student looking to earn credits, you have the possibility of doing so through for participation/attendance of certain NICA-events. Coming up are the courses “Attention: Economies, Media, Affect” and “Radical Interdisciplinarity” that both speak to research interests well-represented at FASoS.

If you have activities that you’d like to promote on the NICA website as a “NICA recommends” news item, please send an announcement directly to NICA. Looking for sponsorship for an event? You can ask NICA to help you organise it. Want to offer a core course or other one-off educational event like a workshop? You can approach the NICA office directly at nica@hum.leidenuniv.nl, or send Eliza an email at e.steinbock@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

For a more extensive overview of the procedures and possibilities within NICA, please see here. Let Eliza know if they can help you get more involved with NICA in any fashion, and they look forward to seeing you at an event soon.
