Vacancy: Associate Dean of Education

The Faculty Board is looking for a new Associate Dean of Education from 1 September 2022 until 1 September 2024.

We would like to sincerely thank Giselle for all she has done for the faculty and the University in this role!

The position is open to Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors. The applicant has to have managerial experience within the field of education, also within FASoS. The candidate should also have a solid understanding of the rules on education within the faculty and within the UM. The applicant should have a vision on how education within the faculty should develop, also in view of the implementation of the current FASoS Strategic Plan (SP). As such the new Associate Dean must be committed to overseeing the implementation of the current SP (especially the vision on education). The candidate should thus be committed to overseeing the implementation of the three SP educational priorities: ensure that our educational programmes continue to address the core challenges facing Europe and our societies today and in the future, continue efforts to create a better, more sustainable environment for teaching at FASoS, and blending online education into FASoS educational programmes.

According to our Faculty Regulations, the Associate Dean for Education is ‘responsible on behalf of the Faculty Board for the coordination and organisation of all of the education within the faculty’. The Education Dean will be assisted by (and also chairs) two education management teams, the OMT BA and the OMT MA respectively, which include the programme directors and, in the case of the OMT BA, two students. The Associate Dean for Education cooperates with the EPCs and the BoE. The Education Dean also works with EdaP, MARCOM, the study advisers, the Assessment Support Team, and the FASoS ICT team and team finance.

The Associate Dean for Education regularly meets with the Rector and the other Deans of Education from UM faculties to discuss, advise and decide on matters of education within our University.

More specifically the Associate Dean for Education has the following main tasks (according to FASoS Regulations):

  1. To consult regularly with the education management teams on their results, challenges and requirements.
  2. To advise the Faculty Board on the internal quality management system and on the follow-up of the results of the external quality management system.
  3. To ensure that the programmes’ Education and Examination Regulations are assessed on a regular basis.
  4. To ensure the quality of our teaching method (in particular PBL) and to oversee the quality, implementation and execution of the quality assurance cycle.

Interested? Then please send a letter of motivation to Nicole Cremers (n.cremers@maastrichtuniversity.nl) by 6 May 2022. In the letter, please outline your vision of education for the faculty and why you think you are a suitable candidate for this position.

Please note that your full CV is not required. Please highlight relevant experiences in your letter. The candidate(s) will be heard by an “advisory group”. This group includes staff and students from the Faculty Council and members of the Faculty Board.
