Call for Associate Programme Director BA European Studies

If so, consider applying for this internal vacancy of (Associate) Programme Director of the Bachelor European Studies.

For the BA European Studies, we are looking for a new (Associate) Programme Director, starting on 1 September 2021. The new Associate Programme Director will be appointed for one year, and might/will then take over the role of Programme Director as of 1 September 2022.

The Bachelor European Studies (BA ES) is an interdisciplinary BA programme that has its focus on the unique socio-cultural space that Europe represents today. The programme covers the ongoing European integration process, but also the historical, political and social aspects of contemporary international developments both within the European Union, its Neighbourhood, and in the wider, global context. The BA ES is currently implementing a curriculum revision process that aims to update and streamline the various learning lines. The team of Programme Director and Associate Programme Director steers this process of change and oversees the coherence in the emerging 3-year curriculum. Moreover, the co-Directors collaborate on providing strategic direction for the entire study programme, and on taking care of the day-to-day management of the programme, in consultation with many other stakeholders.

The Associate Programme Director has responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Collaboration with the Programme Director on providing strategic direction to the programme;
  • Interaction with internal players such as the Board of Examiners, MarCom, Exam Office, EDAP, Faculty Management, etc;
  • Engagement in the FASoS quality care cycles;
  • Curriculum coordination and development in response to both internal and external developments and procedures (f.e. through monitoring the evaluation and updating of courses); alignment of content and assessment;
  • Coordination of the literature exams and internships;
  • Recruitment of new students to the programme on a yearly basis and evaluation of students applying for the Foundation Programme;
  • Representative functions regarding PR, recruitment and alumni activities;
  • Communication with students and the Student Representatives.

When assuming the role of Programme Director, your responsibilities will additionally include:

  • Ensuring that the programme operates within the FASoS’ policies, rules and procedures, the UM quality agreements, and the national (NVAO) re-accreditation standards;
  • Observing for the sustainable workload for staff and students (feasibility and studeerbaarheid);
  • Finance – management of the programme’s budget;
  • Coordination of teaching staff and securing competent tutor teams to deliver the various courses (incl. SOLVER management);
  • Informing, instructing and evaluating course coordinators and teaching assistants;
  • Responsibility for the smooth operation regarding the quality assurance cycles in the programme.

We are looking for an academic staff member who:

  • Is enthusiastic about teaching and has a vision for the organisation of educational and quality assurance practices in our Faculty;
  • Holds a PhD degree, a BKO certificate, and has prior experience with teaching in the BA ES programme;
  • Is an inspiring leader and team-player;
  • Is willing to go the extra mile to secure educational quality;
  • Has strong managerial skills;
  • Knowledge of the Dutch language is highly desirable.

The selected candidate is expected to start on 1 September 2021. Until September 2022, the selected candidate will work in collaboration with the current Programme Director, Elissaveta Radulova. If desired, upon a good evaluation, the candidate can transition into the role of Programme Director on 1 September 2022, at which point another Associate Programme Director will start. The remuneration for the position of APD is 300 solver hours per academic year. The APD will receive support by an Educational Coordinator. For the position of PD, the remuneration is 660 solver hours​ per academic year. The appointment for each role is for a 3-year period.
