Maastricht Disrupt holds first Design Thinking Conference on 1 October

Maastricht Disrupt, a student-led foundation and organisation from Maastricht University and Zuyd University aiming at facilitating the collaboration between innovators, students, professionals and designers, will host its first Design Thinking Conference in Kerkrade on Saturday 1 October 2016. For more information on the event, check the Facebook page.

The goal is to inspire and empower attendees with Design Thinking to be an active member of society and to create a better and socially just future by connecting the educational institutions of Maastricht and faculties with its diverse disciplines. Maastricht Disrupt is designed to serve as a think tank to create innovative solutions by offering a platform where students can collaborate and work on projects based on real-life that have an impact on Maastricht and the region.

Design Thinking refers to a methodology that is used to find solutions to complex problems as well as simultaneously cater to the client. Design Thinking consists of 6 stages: understanding, observing and defining a point of view. Afterwards you use the newly-acquired insights to channel your creative power and ideate, prototype and test your ideas. In the end your team may design a solution that makes the user’s life easier – and the world a better place as the interests of the business, the environment and the society are weighed.

The conference focuses on showing and teaching students and professionals the benefits of Design Thinking while connecting it to a sustainable conscious to create a better world. The conference serves as the entrance to the design thinking world in Limburg and gives the attendees the opportunity to interact with people from other disciplines in a fun and professional manner.

It is continuously being implemented by large companies such as IBM and Phillips to name a few.
