Call for Programme Director of MA Media Studies: Digital Cultures

Are you able to give academic leadership to a group of highly-motivated academic staff and give further shape to the content and organisation of the master’s programme Media Studies: Digital Cultures? If so, please do consider applying for the position of Programme Director of this programme.

The programme combines theory and practice in how digital technologies have transformed the ways we share and distribute information, understand the past, interact with each other and spend our leisure time. The digital has changed the terms of engagement with areas as diverse as politics and culture: while it can function as a force for good in democratising participation, production, and sharing, it can also be exploitative, introducing new forms of control and surveillance. As the digital pervades all aspects of our lives, traditional media and analogue culture are being reshaped in new and complex interrelationships. The master’s programme in Media Studies: Digital Cultures combines theory and reflection with praxis and making. It will provide students with a wide skill set in digital tools and research methods to become both a media researcher and an active player in a wide range of industries and cultural and heritage organisations in today’s digitally-mediated world.

The Programme Director has responsibilities in the following areas:

  1. Giving strategic direction and educational vision to the programme;
  2. Guard and develop the quality substance of the educational programme;
  3. Ensure that the programme operates within FASoS’ policies and procedures regarding quality assurance standards, workload for staff and financial soundness;
  4. Coordination of academic staff and interaction with other internal educational stakeholders such as OMT, BoE, team exams, study advisors, MarCom, Finance, Faculty Management, etc;
  5. Liaise with course coordinators and tutors, and the Educational Coordinator;
  6. Curriculum development in response to both internal and external developments, and in line with the educational vision;
  7. Admission of new students to the programme on a yearly basis in cooperation with MarCom;
  8. Representative functions regarding PR, recruitment and alumni activities;
  9. Communication with students.

We are looking for an academic staff member who:

  • Is enthusiastic and has a vision about teaching and the organisation of education at our Faculty;
  • Holds a PhD degree and has substantial previous experience with teaching in this programme;
  • Has extensive experience in using qualitative methods for digital media research and a research profile addressing topics and issues relevant to the MA;
  • Holds the BKO certificate;
  • Is an inspiring leader, team-player and has excellent people skills;
  • Is willing to go the extra mile on the road of educational innovation;
  • Has strong managerial skills.

The selected candidate is expected to start on 1 September 2021. The remuneration for this position is 225 solver hours. The programme director will be supported by an Educational Coordinator.
