Introducing: Rowan Saeed

Rowan Saeed is a Global Health master’s graduate from Maastricht University, with a background experience in policy, planning and youth empowerment.

Recently she joined the Global studies programme as a teaching fellow, and she will be part of the Politics department.

Michiel Bron receives fellowship at American Institute of Physics

For his research stay in the United States from 11 September to 13 October, Michiel Bron will be a Robert H.G. Helleman Memorial Graduate Research Fellow at the American Institute of Physics.

Introducing: Hannah Jakob Barrett

Hello everyone! My name is Hannah Jakob Barrett and I will be working as a Teaching Fellow in the Politics Department.

I’m a recent graduate of the Research Master of European Studies here at FASoS, and I’m so happy to be back in Maastricht. Prior to my time here, I completed a Bachelor in Geography and International Development at the University of California, Los Angeles.

I’m very excited to get to know all of you as the year progresses!

Introducing: Özlemnur Ataol

Merhaba (Hi in Turkish) everyone, my name is Özlemnur Ataol, and I am ecstatic to start my new adventure at FASoS as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Philosophy, where I will be joining the Circular City Challenge project starting September 8th.

I am an urban planner and researcher focusing on participatory urban planning and management with underrepresented groups, such as children, towards creating inclusive and sustainable cities.

Introducing: Vanessa Bateman

Hello! My name is Vanessa Bateman and I just moved to Maastricht from Toronto, Canada.

I will be working as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Raf de Bont’s “Moving Animals” project.

Earlier this year, I completed my PhD in Art History, Theory, and Criticism at the University of California San Diego.

New director Centre for Gender and Diversity

On 1 September 2022, Lies Wesseling will step down as the director of the Centre for Gender and Diversity, to be succeeded by Eliza Steinbock.

Steinbock’s focus will be on knowledge valorisation and intra- and interfaculty collaboration.

Over the past 10 years, Wesseling has mainly focused on the internationalisation of the Centre’s research and events, in line with the imperatives of the peer review panels that evaluated the CGD every five years.

Johan Adriaensen new CPD coordinator

The Faculty Board is pleased to announce that Johan Adriaensen will be the new faculty coordinator for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Johan coordinates and teaches BA and MA courses in European Studies and chairs the Educational Programme Committee BA European Studies. His research interests include curriculum development in European Studies, International Relations and Political Science.

Leonard Schuette will be leaving FASoS

Following the submission of his PhD, Leonard Schuette is leaving FASos with a heavy heart to join the Munich Security Conference as a senior researcher and the Hertie School as a research fellow.

Introducing: Maria Kvarving

Hi there, I’m Maria Kvarving. I’m from Norway and I’m excited to start my new role as a teaching fellow for the Global Studies BSc.

Earlier this year, I finished my MSc in Legal Psychology at UM’s Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience and before that, I completed my MA in Psychology at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.

My academic interests are very diverse and range from psychology and anthropology to law and political science.

Introducing: Tara Rogers

Hi everyone! I’m Tara, and I have started as Teaching Fellow in the BSc Global Studies.

I hold a BA in International Studies from Leiden University, with a specialisation in African Studies.

I have recently graduated from the MA Globalisation and Development Studies here at FASoS. For my thesis, I carried out fieldwork research, investigating faith-based organisations as development agents in the context of xenophobia in South Africa.
