Introducing: Ilaria Lorusso

Hi everyone! I am Ilaria Lorusso and this academic year I will be working as a Teaching Fellow at FASoS, in the Politics Department.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science achieved in Rome, and I have completed the Research Master in European Studies here at Maastricht University.

I am honoured to be part of the teaching staff at FASoS and I look forward to start this new chapter at UM!

Introducing: Valentina Reyes Pinto

Hello everyone! I am Valentina Reyes Pinto, the newest member of the Front Office team. Before coming to FASoS, I worked at the Admissions Office of the SSC.

I will officially start my new position as of 1 September, but this month I have already started working some days here at FASoS, so feel free to walk in and have a chat!

Introducing: Toon Van Overbeke

Hi everyone, My name is Toon Van Overbeke and I am thrilled to join FASoS as Assistant Professor in Europe, Climate and Digital Society.

I am a political economist with a particular focus on understanding how societies negotiate structural changes, like the climate transition or automation, which promise to help most in society in the long run but cause severe harm to some in the immediate present. This work relies on mixed methods.

Hello everyone! My name is Yolande Hobbs and I have recently joined FASoS as a teaching fellow for the department of History.

I previously studied Liberal Arts and Sciences at Utrecht University and just completed my Master’s from SBE here in Maastricht.

I’m glad to be a member of the faculty and can’t wait to start.

Introducing: Massimiliano Simons

Hi everyone, I am Massimiliano Simons.

I will start this August as a new Assistant Professor in Philosophy of Technology at FASoS. I will be a member of the philosophy department and the MUSTS research programme, and will mainly contribute to the Bachelor in Digital Society.

My research focuses on philosophy of technoscience, which refers to recent novel scientific disciplines, such as synthetic biology, nanotechnology, robotics or data science.

Mariëlle Wijermars fellow at Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies

Mariëlle Wijermars has been awarded a CORE Fellowship from the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies for the 2022/2023 academic year.

As a fellow at the Collegium, Mariëlle will conduct a research project on ‘The Platformisation of Authoritarian Control in Russia’.

Giuseppe Zaccaria receives fellowship at EUI

Giuseppe Zaccaria has received an offer for a fellowship at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy.

From 1 September 2022 until 23 December 2022, Giuseppe will be a PhD research fellow at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the EUI.

Soetkin Verhaegen receives fellowship at University of Duisburg-Essen

From 1 June 2022 until 31 May 2023, Soetkin Verhaegen will be a research fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg/Centre for Global Cooperation Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

During this fellowship, she will collaborate with researchers at the centre to develop a survey experiment to study the role of non-state actors regarding the legitimacy of global governance.
