Course Grants for Individuals

Are you a junior staff member who is preparing an individual competitive grant proposal and feels needs training? The course Grants for Individuals helps to train academics in the last year of their PhD research and up to three years after having completed their PhD to apply for competitive individual grant schemes. Please contact the research funding advisor Merle Achten by mail, or by phone at 06 4670 5509.

The aim of the course is to train those young academics for competitive individual grant schemes. This is done by writing training on actual proposals, and rebuttals and interview training.

You will be trained by means of their own research proposal: you enter the course with a draft proposal for a certain programme, and leave it with a version which is ready to submit. During the course you will review other proposals, rewrite your draft, present and refine your presentation. About 50% of the FASoS candidates who participated in the course in the past actually got the grant in the end.

To be able to participate you need to:

• Be preparing an actual grant proposal which they are to submit to an individual grant funding scheme, e.g. Marie Curie fellowship grant, Rubicon grant and the Veni grant (please note all individual grant schemes are allowed, so not only the mainstream ones).
• Have full support from your PI to ensure you are supported and have sufficient time to complete the course. The work involved is quite intensive (6 meetings plus homework incl. reviewing, rewriting, and preparing presentation).
• Go through an half hour intake with the research funding advisor before Christmas.

Please note we offer separate courses for Vidi and ERC starting grant candidates.
