Dr Carine Germond received one of the competitive Fellowships for Dutch Scholars at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Studies (NIAS) in Wassenaar. NIAS is an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). The fellowship entails a teaching replacement grant and is for one-semester (from September 2015 to January 2016).

During her stay at Wassenaar she will work on a monograph entitled “Demeter’s Experts: Agriculturists and the Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy”. The book enquires into the role of experts in debating agricultural policy reform in the European Economic Community (EEC) between 1957 and 1992. This archive-based study of experts in European agricultural integration and policy-making will provide comprehensive insights into the role of these agricultural experts in co-shaping a crucial socio-economic sector in post-war Western Europe. It will moreover contribute to illustrating the historical trajectory of expertise in a key European international organization with a regional focus.
