European master’s degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA)

The European master’s degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) is a one-year multidisciplinary advanced course. The first term of the academic year will take place in Venice, Italy, and the second term at one of the 41 participating EU universities. This one-year Master’s Degree is a multidisciplinary advanced course in the field of human rights and democratisation. The first term of the academic year will take place in Venice, Italy. Here, students perform an in-depth study of the following themes: Human Rights Institutions, Mechanisms and Standards, Human Rights in Context, Democratisation, Human Rights and Globalisation and Human Rights and Security. The second term of the academic year will take place at one of the 41 participating universities from all member states of the European Union. This Master programme is aimed at preparing young professionals to respond to the operational requirements of daily work in international organisations, field operations, governmental and non-governmental bodies. This Master pays attention to practical skills and is supported by an Advisory Board composed of representatives of prominent organisations such as the EU, the Council of Europe and Human Rights Watch. The University of Maastricht is the coordinating university for the Netherlands and takes care of the national selection. The deadline for application is 15 March 2014.
