Extra-ordinary Political Science Department meeting

On Monday 13 November, staff members of the Political Science Department gathered for the third extra-ordinary meeting at 11.11. The theme of the event was: ‘When I grow up I wanted to be/I want to be a ….’ The winning team was awarded a Haribo advent calendar and the rest of the team received a pack of professor-chips.

As such a pianist, a medical doctor, a space-agent, a vegetarian butcher, a professor, an explorer, an Olympic gymnast, a cowboy, an African queen, a diving instructor, an architect, an empress and the second female prime minister of the Netherlands (of a purple cabinet) attended the meeting.

Three groups were formed based on professional aspirations and worked on a questionnaire developed by Alternative Committee for Joyous Programme-construction (ACJP).

Participants not only had to come up with a name for a BA programme and a luring punch-line, but also with application requirements and design both a substantive course and skills course. Further tasks included the design of an internship opportunity, a MARBLE project and an alumni strategy.

The options put forward included tourism and leisure studies with a graduation ceremony in Hawaii and the best thesis published by Rough Guide and lonely planet; exploration studies with the motto “ go out and hope for the best” and a BA in “how to rule the world” with no content courses but skills on how to never lose power. The jury composed of Afke Groen and Johan Adriaensen allotted points for each category.
