FASoS will establish a Digital Studies Lab (provisional name) to support research and education using digital methods, tools and resources.
The lab is part of a university-wide network of resources supporting digital research and teaching as a response to the increasing importance of digital technologies.

It is envisioned that the Lab will put our faculty in a better position to conduct more pioneering, novel, and experimental scholarship with digital technologies and about digital society and culture. Furthermore, a ‘Digital Studies Lab’ will function as space for collaboration as well as experimentation with digital methods, tools, resources, and forms of representation.
This Lab will be a flexible and modular space that can adapt to a variety of purposes and group sizes for both research and educational activities. It will include hardware for computationally intensive work, as well as other digital equipment and software that will serve our faculty’s research and teaching needs.
The aim is for the lab to be partly operational by the start of the next academic year. However, this is a long-term endeavour that will also require substantial work to develop a realistic business plan, ultimately aiming at additional funding and resources in order to make it sustainable in the long run.
To achieve this, the Lab task force will be in contact with the departments and research groups, and will also be conducting focus groups and surveys with members of staff and various research/education groups to gather requirements that will better inform the development of the Lab.
In the coming weeks, the Lab task force will release a survey to collect some first requirements.
