Bachelor’s student in Arts and Culture Esther van Duin has been elected UNESCO-Youth Representative for the Netherlands by Dutch youth organisations. In the coming year, she will collect young people’s opinions and ideas and discuss them with officials at the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Netherlands National Commission for UNESCO, and at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, among others.
As Youth Representative, she is interested in representing especially the voice of the older age groups among the youth on the topics of culture, intangible heritage and cultural diversity. “There is already a lot of contact through UNESCO-schools between Youth Representatives and secondary school pupils. I would like to set up a structural network to involve 18-27 year old youngsters in everything that we do as well.”
