#FASoSFoodies part 3: Iskren Lalov from Bulgaria

Iskren is a European Studies student at FASoS. He was born in Mezdra, Bulgaria and grew up in Gandía, Spain where he lived for 10 years. When we asked him about his favourite dish, he told us that he loves various cuisines. From the Bulgarian cuisine he likes ‘Gyuvetch’, an oven-baked meat and vegetable stew. His favourite Spanish dish is ‘Paella Valenciana’, typical of the region where he lived.

“I really liked to eat at ‘100 Montaditos’ when I lived in Spain, they serve delicious Spanish tapas. From Italy I really like Spaghetti Carbonara and Lasagna with four cheeses (or more!).

I have a passion for cooking and baking. I love cooking myself, and I like to come up with something different. I believe that you eat with your eyes; it is very important how your dish looks. I love baking muffins with loads of chocolate and experiment with every new attempt. I think that cooking dinner for a date is way more romantic than going out for dinner”.

When we asked him what he likes most about the Dutch cuisine, Iskren told us he likes “really everything except this typical Dutch candy called drop (liquorice). My Dutch favourites are bitterballen, stroopwafels and poffertjes. I love to eat poffertjes with Nutella, although it’s not the traditional way of serving them”.
