Results: smoking policy at FASoS

In June this year a survey was conducted among staff and students at FASoS, asking their opinion on whether smoking and/or non-smoking areas should be implemented at specifically designated FASoS outdoor areas. The input has been used to create a new smoking policy at FASoS. In total 179 people responded, of whom 120 students and 59 employees. The results of the survey are shown in this graph.

This resulted in a decision for smoking and/or non-smoking areas.

Non-smoking:

  • Turnzaal entrance
  • Bandito garden (GG86 garden)
  • Entrance GG76
  • Back entrance GG80-82 (including metal stairs/ bridge)
  • Small courtyard behind common room
  • Path from back entrance GG90-92 to entrance Turnzaal

Smoking:

  • Path to parking lot
  • Area near fire escape stairs GG76
  • Courtyard near reception GG80-82
  • Tree garden behind GG90-92

Actions

Clear/better signage will be implemented. With the areas clearly indicated it will be easier to point out to people where to smoke if they smoke in a non-smoking area. This is a joint effort where staff and students all work together to create a better FASoS outside environment!

A pleasant smoking area will be created near the fire escape stairs near GG76 (think of an area with a bench, roof and ashtrays). The glass roof near the entrance at the Turnzaal will be removed.

Planning

In the next two months the signs and new smoking areas will be installed, after which the new smoking policy will be effective. You will be informed in due time. In the course of 2017 the new smoking policy will be evaluated.
