Green Conference Maastricht at the Centre Céramique

gogreenHow can we use public spaces for common green goals? Can Maastricht become a sustainable urban environment? How to be green on a low budget?

Questions and topics like these are at the centre of the Green Conference on 17-18 April. During the conference you can listen, debate and interact with local, national and international experts on the topics of sustainability, a greener environment and your creative city.

The Green Conference takes place on Wednesday 17 April and in the morning of Thursday 18 April at the Centre Ceramique Maastricht. The program of Wednesday 17 April will focus on theory and ideas. Key-note speakers are author of The Hungry City Carolyn Steel, professor on landscape architecture at RWTH Aachen Frank Lohrberg, and author of Greening Berlin and Maastricht University lecturer Jens Lachmund. After the organic lunch by Semplice e Buono the afternoon continues with presentations by local entrepreneurs like Loes van Oort (NAiM/ Bureau Europa) and Toos Hofstede (Kasteel Vaeshartelt). An organic homemade dinner is served by Semplice e Buono, followed by a evening organized by discussion platform Sphinx Maastricht. There the key-note speakers are joined by alderman Gerdo van Grootheest in a public debate (free entrance).

On Thursday 18 April we introduce you to successful projects already in progress. The morning is introduced by The Artist and the Others. Following this are presentations by the coffeemakers of Bandito Espresso, designer Dave Hakkens, a herbal workshop by Wies Brok, the Sphinxpark Maastricht, BEE Collective and the VOKO. Ending the conference program is a roundtable discussion focused on your creative green input:
The Maastricht municipality offers a green plot to the young (student) generation of the city. In the north of Maastricht between the railroad, Jeruzalemweg and the Hoge Hotelschool is a mainly undeveloped patch of land ( You can change this: With a good strategy and plan, this area can be yours to cultivate and use for green solutions like urban farming or a community garden. The Municipality creates the basis for your project to start by preparing the land and providing the material, the produce and profit of the project will be yours.
During the roundtable session you can present idea(s) for this project. An expert panel will give immediate feedback and answer questions. The meeting is moderated by Stefan Muijtjens, agricultural advisor and an expert in transforming green ideals into practical reality.
For this session, we seek people who want to become actively involved in any way, and if you just want to join and listen, you’re more than welcome too! Small or big, your contribution is always appreciated. This project is a unique possibility to create a greener future for yourself and other young talents, and this meeting is your chance to present your thoughts on that greener and more sustainable life.

After the session another organic lunch is served by the amazing people of Semplice e Buono!
