Open to staff and students, the event will include chapter presentations and a Q&A on various innovative visual mapping methods that centre migrants’ experiences through co-production of knowledge through creative, artistic techniques.

The colloquium will explore innovative research methods for studying the relationship between migration and education (broadly conceived), focusing on centring migrants’ experiences through visual mapping methods.

Chapter presentations will introduce these methods and demonstrate how creative, artistic, and dialogic encounters, particularly with young people of migration background, can generate knowledge on various aspects of migration and education. The featured chapters also question the processes and power dynamics of knowledge production, experimenting with new ways of co-creating knowledge with participants while critically engaging researchers’ own positionality.

The presenters will share their experiences developing and implementing these methods, focusing on what kinds of knowledge they enable researchers to generate, as well as practical considerations for applying these methods.
