GTD holds research retreat in Maastricht

On Thursday 20 August, the Globalisation, Transnationalism and Development (GTD) research programme held their annual research retreat in Maastricht.

The retreat offered the chance to meet in person for the first time since the lockdown, welcome new colleagues, discuss the future direction of the GTD research programme, and handover the programme’s leadership from Prof. Valentina Mazzucato to Associate Professor Adam Dixon.

The Globalisation, Transnationalism and Development (GTD) research programme held their annual research retreat at the StayOkay hostel in Maastricht. The retreat offered the chance for the GTD to meet in person for the first time since the lockdown in March and to welcome new colleagues, including Assistant Professor Timothy Makori and PhD students Cecilia Schenetti and Maha Naami, in a socially distant environment including StayOkay’s waterside terrace and the city park.

The day included discussions around the GTD programme’s future research agenda, considerations of how the COVID pandemic affects our research, and the role of GTD research in society. The day was interspersed with Art Club sessions in which everyone shared a piece of artwork, from music to Japanese scrolls, that was meaningful to them and explained why.

The day was capped off by the official handover of the GTD programme’s leadership from Prof. Valentina Mazzucato (who founded it in 2012) to Associate Professor Adam Dixon.
