Horizon 2020 UM Information session

horizon_2020Learn everything you always wanted to know about Horizon 2020 on Thursday 28 November at the Maastricht University info meeting (14.00 to 17.00 at Universiteitssingel 40). All researchers and others interested in Horizon 2020 are welcome to join us. The sessions will be held in English.

Horizon 2020 will take off on 1 January as the new European research and innovation programme and successor of the FP7 (Seventh Framework) programme. The programme budget will be €70 billion for its seven year duration, 2014-2020. Calls and work programmes of Horizon 2020 will open on 11 December 2013.

Through Horizon 2020, the European Commission (EC) aims to improve Europe’s competitive position. In addition, the EC wants to spur on business and academia to collaborate in creating solutions for Pan-European societal challenges, such as climate change, an ageing population, the financial crisis and affordable renewable energy.

The meeting is organised by the Maastricht University Contract Research Centre on Thursday 28 November, and will take place from 14.00 to 17.00 at Universiteitssingel 40 (UNS 40). We will start with an introduction on the programme, its three pillars, the rules for participation and the differences from and similarities with the Seventh Research Framework Programme. Secondly, we will provide useful tips and tricks for reading calls and writing a successful proposal. Next to that we will deal with practical questions, such as: how will the proposals be assessed, how to find the best partners and how can we learn from the past?

After the general introduction there will be three workshops:

1. Marie Curie grants within the Excellent Science pillar

2. ERC starting and consolidator grants within the Excellent Science pillar

3. Societal Challenges.

During the sessions you can contact your grant advisor to schedule an appointment for an individual meeting on your research proposal.

For registration, send an email to: Lisa Kaup: lisa.kaup@maastrichtuniversity.nl. Please indicate which workshop you would like to attend; you can also choose to attend just the general introduction. If you want to take part in Workshop 3, please indicate which of the societal challenges named on the Agentschap-NL website you are interested in. If you have questions about Horizon 2020, feel free to send them to Lisa before the meeting, so we can address them during the sessions.
