On Friday 29 November, Black Friday takes place – a Friday of consumerism. But this Black Friday will be different because it coincides with the fourth Global Climate Strike.
On Friday 29 November, from 15.30 onwards, Students for Climate Maastricht is organising a huge human chain against climate change in the shopping streets of Maastricht. If you want to participate, please sign up via this Google form or via Facebook.
We do not seek to blame, we do not seek to shame, we simply want to raise awareness and inspire positive change. We will be seen by many locals and tourists shopping on that day and we want to use that opportunity to provide knowledge. Because only if you know, you can change.
We will come together as concerned citizens from all ages and social backgrounds and we will stand next to each other holding posters with the facts about what continuing with business as usual entails for our planet.
In that regard, we are targeting 5 issues linked to consumerism (Fast-fashion, Banks and Fossil Fuels, Plastic, Food and Human Rights), our posters will display facts about each of these topics and there will be a flyer for each category with information on the problem and the individual actions one can take. The human chain will end/lead to Mosae Forum where there will be a ‘How to be more sustainable’ mini-festival in collaboration with local environmental organisations giving tips and information to interested citizens.
