Internship at Jan van Eyck Academie, March – July

The Nature Research department at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht is offering a paid internship position in the framework of the Future Materials programme during March – July 2022.

The intern will assist the Nature Research coordinator in the launch, development and implementation of the programme, in collaboration with the Future Materials team and the staff of the academy.

Internship period: March – July 2022 (exact dates to be determined)
Hours per week: full-time (preferably). Variations can be agreed in conversation with the Nature Research coordinator
Monthly allowance: € 500

Requirements:

  • BA or MA student in arts, design, arts management or similar
  • Interest in sustainability and the material aspects of art practices
  • Great capability to work in a team as well as to carry out tasks independently
  • Multitasking and organisational skills, eye-for-details
  • Great communication and writing skills
  • Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Dutch is an advantage

The intern will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop a sound understanding of how a post-academic institute functions
  • Learn to think with the team and participants about what sustainability means in relation to art and design practices
  • Acquire knowledge about how artists think and work, and about sustainable nontoxic materials for arts and design
  • Acquire experience in researching, writing, creating and developing an artistic programme
  • Develop experience in project management

Tasks:

  • Assisting the organisation of the Future Materials workshop programme
    • Content-related research and support to development of the workshop programme
    • Surveying specific material needs or materials interests by academy participants
    • Correspondence with designers and artists
    • Assisting the planning of the workshop programme
    • Organising the production of the workshop together with the technical assistant and the production manager of the academy
  • Material research
    • Researching new materials to be included in the Future Materials Bank
    • Collecting and archiving materials samples
  • Text editing
    • Drafting texts about the material workshops
    • Liaising with the communication team concerning the workshop programme
  • Other tasks
    • Social Media management
    • Daily tasks entailed in working in an art organisation
    • Supporting the academy participants in their inquiries concerning sustainability and ecology

The Final candidate will be selected by 18 March.
