Internship at the Cuypershuis, Roermond, on architect Pierre Cuypers

The important architect and entrepreneur Pierre Cuypers (1827-1921) played a great role in Dutch architecture, as builder of the Rijksmuseum and Central Station in Amsterdam, and of many churches and civil buildings everywhere in the country. His work as architect has been studied, but not his success as entrepreneur of a large architectural bureau and design office (sculpture etc.). The internship is focused on that less-studied aspect.

The intern will be situated in the Cuypershuis in Roermond, the place where Pierre Cuypers started his activities in 1853. The research on his entrepreneurial activities will be done in several archives and libraries at Roermond, Maastricht, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Preferably leading to a publication. Given the fact that most sources will be in Dutch, the intern should have a good command of Dutch language.
