Introducing: Jacob Ward

I’m Jacob Ward, and I joined FASoS on 1 October as Assistant Professor in the History of Information, Computing, and Digitality. I am a member of the History department and the MUSTS research programme, and I have joined UM from the University of Oxford, where I was a postdoc in the history of computing.

Before Oxford, I worked at the Science Museum, London, on their exhibition ‘Top Secret: From Secret Ciphers to Cybersecurity’. Here, I was also based for my collaborative PhD, which I completed in 2018 at University College London’s Department of Science and Technology Studies.

My research lies at the intersection of political history and the history of information technology. I have published on the influence of the City of London financial sector on telecommunications privatisation, and I am working on a book on the history of Thatcherism and information infrastructure.

I look forward to meeting my new colleagues in the coming weeks and months. If you’d like to get in touch, then you can reach me at j.ward@maastrichtuniversity.nl.
