Introducing: Shoki Hayir

My name is Shoki Hayir. On 15 August 2018, I started as a Teaching Assistant in the Political Science Department. I am involved in teaching in the European Studies Bachelor programme. I have obtained my Bachelor’s degree in European Studies at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences and MA in European Studies at FASoS.

Before joining FASoS, I was part-time lecturer at Zuyd University of Applied Science where I taught and facilitated classroom tutorials for the minor Human Rights and the course International Relations within the bachelor European Studies.

Last year, I received a scholarship from the Scholars at Risk Network in New York and did a pre-PhD programme at Radboud University, where I have followed courses in preparation for an external PhD trajectory. I have successfully presented my PhD proposal in July. My research is in the field of rebel governance. It explores how insurgents (non-state armed groups) attempt to govern and establish new state-like polities within the territories where they control. The PhD examines the interaction between rebels and civilians in wartime, focusing on the case study of the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) in Somalia.

I was born in Mogadishu, Somalia.
