Introducing: Sohini Mallick

Hello everyone! My name is Sohini Mallick and I have recently joined FASoS as part of the “PURE3D” project, which aims at developing a digital web infrastructure which gives access to 3D Digital Humanities scholarship online.

My role is that of a Research Software Developer. I will be working with Costas Papadopoulos, Susan Schreibman and Kelly Gillikin-Schoueri.

I was born and raised in India in several different cities, which imbued in me a deep love & awe for different cultures.

I have an undergraduate degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering from Manipal University, Jaipur, India. During the course of this programme, I worked on multiple projects related to Embedded Systems, within various governmental research labs.

I arrived in the Netherlands in 2019, to do a master’s in Digital Archaeology at Leiden University. My thesis focused on using AI-based methodology to detect archaeological features (specifically Celtic Fields in the Veluwe region of the Netherlands) from LIDAR data.

My general interest lies in the development of new digital and software technology, to aide research in archaeology, heritage management and humanities.

I am an avid reader, and can curl up for hours on end with a book in my hand. I also enjoy travel and outdoor activities such as hiking and am fascinated with anything to do with antiquities, culture, history and mythology.

I hope to be meeting more of you at the faculty soon!
