Jack Post will be leaving FASoS because he is taking early retirement.
As a farewell, he will screen the film L’événement by French-Romanian filmmaker Audrey Diwan on 29 April at 16.00 in Lumière. The film is in French and has Dutch subtitles. After the movie, from about 18.00, there will be a farewell drink with snacks, where you can say goodbye to Jack .

Set in 1963 France, the film tells the story of brilliant student Anne who becomes pregnant and ‘wants to get rid of that’ in order to finish her studies and escape the working-class environment she comes from. Anne struggles with her pregnancy, which goes on and on and on. The film confronts us with the dilemmas, the shame, the pain, the secrecy, but above all the deafening silence surrounding an illegal abortion. At the time, abortion was taboo and forbidden in France.
The film is preceded by a short introduction by Jack Post who will discuss how the autobiographical story of Annie Ernaux is depicted on screen by filmmaker Audrey Diwan and actress Anamaria Vartolomei (Anne) and how this extremely personal event is made ‘our’ story. After all, recent developments in countries like the US, Poland or Hungary, as well as the filmmaker’s own abortion experiences, show that the taboo around abortion still persists.
