Jordy Friedrich: looking ahead

I meet Jordy Friedrich, HR adviser at FASoS, in the Bandito garden. He just returned from a stay in Marrakech.

The reason for the short trip was relaxation, because Jordy has had a turbulent 2 years, to say the least.

“I proposed to my fiancé in January 2019. We were supposed to get married on 31 July 2020, but on 9 April 2020, my dad passed away. He was my best friend and we had lots of things in common; we both liked to drive motor cycles, we enjoyed playing table tennis and we both have a black belt in judo. His death was especially difficult because it all went so quickly. In March, my dad contracted the coronavirus. He was a very healthy man so we had never expected he would have to go to the hospital and be intubated. The week before we lost my dad, my grandmother passed away, also due to the coronavirus. In the same week that my dad died, my sister had her second child, I started my new job at FASoS and my fiancé and I found our dream home in Trintelen.”

After this difficult period, Jordy is trying to focus on the future again. “When my dad passed away, I had only just started working at FASoS. I was a bit afraid how it would go, but everyone gave me the time and space that I needed to grieve. I am very grateful for the FASoS community. The period of grieve gave me the opportunity to look towards the future. In January 2021, my fiancé and I moved into our new home. It’s a fixer-upper, so there is still plenty of work to be done. Due to the floods last summer, our entire basement was filled with water and the floor in our living room started rotting. The good news is that the floor was old and that we wanted a new one anyway, but it took a while before it could be installed so we had to camp upstairs for a while. We have also renovated the toilets and bathroom, installed new window frames, and added fixed stairs to our attic.”

When it comes to his wedding, Jordy is in the final stages of planning. “We moved our wedding three times due to corona. We also changed the concept of our wedding. Our first idea was to have an English garden party at Vaeshartelt with 100 guests. Now, we have decided to keep our wedding intimate. We have invited 30 of our closest friends and family to celebrate with us at Château St. Gerlach on 21 June 2022. I’m looking forward to this special day.”
