Laura Ogden, a researcher on the MO-TRAYL project, has published an article on The Conversation about her research with young people of Ghanaian background in Germany, titled ‘Young Ghanaians in Europe travel ‘home’ a lot: why their mobility matters.‘
Researchers have overlooked migrant youth’s physical mobility, even though recent research shows that it is a common phenomenon. The MO-TRAYL project investigates this mobility and how it affects the lives of migrant youth with a Ghanaian background in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Ghana.
The article describes how young people’s experiences during their travels from Germany to Ghana change their relationships to their country of origin over time and space. This depends on how often they visit Ghana, and the people, places and events they encounter on their trips.
