LGBTQIA+ lecture, on Friday 5 March

Sass Sasot and Robin will give a lecture about LGBTQIA+ on Friday 5 March, at 18.30.

Sass Sassot will talk about her experiences with LGTBQIA+ rights in the UN. Sass is a teacher in the history department at FASoS. On top of that, she has dedicated her life to the promotion of transgender rights. The second speaker is Robin (they/them). Robin is a Romanian-born LGTBQIA+ activist who is currently studying at UM.

In 2002, Sass co-founded the pioneer transgender rights organisation, the Society of Transsexual Women of the Philippines (STRAP) in her home country, the Philippines. In the context of this, she held a speech at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 9 December 2009 for which she was awarded the Harry Benjamin Distinguished Education and Advocacy Award by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health in 2014.

Robin is a Romanian-born LGTBQIA+ activist who is currently studying at UM. They are the coordinator of the queer group Dionyx in Maastricht. In the lecture they will talk about their personal experiences with LGTBQIA+ rights in Romania and elsewhere.
