Meanwhile at FASoS: the installation of LED lights

On 1 March, Facility Services started with the project LED lighting in the Grote Gracht buildings 76, 80-82, 86 and 90-92.

The lighting fixtures, the supporting structures with fittings for light sources, will be replaced by LED variants. Facility Services will start with the tutorial rooms after which the fixtures in offices, hallways etc. will be replaced. The planning is to have all lighting fixtures replaced by June.

The new fixtures work on Organic Response; a wireless lighting control system developed to meet the needs for various spaces. All luminaires have their own sensor that responds to presence, the displacement of heat and the entry of sunlight. Each sensor then receives and sends the information to nearby sensors. For example, the lamps can anticipate a walking route and spread the light through the room when necessary creating a workplace that is as comfortable as possible.

This all of course also results in contributing to the UM sustainability goals and the next step for the monumental buildings towards more sustainable buildings. Expected energy savings are 40-50% compared to the old lighting system.
