Meeting update: Arts & Culture Programme Committee

Today in our Arts & Culture Programme Committee meeting we had four imperative points on our agenda:

  1. Period 5 action plan
  2. Quality, quantity and procedure of feedback
  3. Evaluation of courses for period 2 & 3
  4. Evaluation of minor courses

We began our meeting with a brief yet detailed announcement from our programme directors about the confirmation of period 5 being carried out completely online, this proceeded with the discussion and planning to carry out a few on-campus extra-curricular activities for the students in small numbers, in complete accordance with the COVID regulations ordered by the government.

We then moved on to our second point of discussion which was the process of feedback. We engaged in an intense and productive talk about how we can improve feedback that students receive as well as improve feedback that students give to tutors in the form of IWIOs. We found solutions such as encouraging students to reach out to their tutors and/or course coordinators when necessary to discuss absolutely any issues, etc.

Furthermore, we discussed the evaluation of courses from period 2 & 3. This was a rather short and proactive discussion as positive modifications were made from our previous discussions and the courses have been running rather smoothly. We have received positive comments from tutors and students on all courses with a few points of constructive criticism.

Finally, we moved to the evaluation of the minor courses where we discussed how students have had an immense positive impact on their learning by having conducted so many group collaborative study experiences. Students have realised that working along with fellow students has made them feel more empowered and involved in their study. Students have also noticed that they are thoroughly able to build on their writing skills which will be extremely beneficial in their BA/MA thesis writings. We also discussed the importance of referencing in the world of academia and how as a faculty we should lay more emphasis on this topic and find fun and efficient ways to teach more and improved ways of referencing.
