MSA Week of Events and Open Members Meeting, on 4 – 12 July and 27 June

In lieu of the annual conference, the Memory Studies Association (co-directed by Aline Sierp) will be hosting a week of virtual events from 4 July to 8 July, followed by a series of online panels organised by some of the MSA working groups on 11 and 12 July.

The panels will be as follows:

  • Monday 4 July 15.00 CEST/22.00 KST: “Novelists and the Work of Memory”; a roundtable discussion moderated by Hanna Teichler from the Goethe-University in Frankfurt, with speakers Xiaolu Guo and Randy Ribay.
  • Tuesday 5 July 14.00 CEST/21.00 KST: “Women and Gendered Violence”; a series of presentations and discussions moderated by Carol Gluck from Columbia University, with presentations from Chizuko Ueno, Eunshil Kim and Rada Iveković.
  • Wednesday 6 July 14.00 CEST/21.00 KST: “Conversation with Director Sergei Loznitsa”; which will include a director’s talk and discussion in addition to a screening of Loznitsa’s film “Maidan” via Zoom.
  • Thursday 7 July 14.00 CEST/21.00 KST: “Itineraries of Memory Studies: Reflections on Methodological Innovation”; a roundtable discussion moderated by Avishek Parui from IIT Madras, with speakers Ann Rigney, Jie-Hyun Lim, and Duane Jethro.
  • Friday 8 July 14.00 CEST/21.00 KST: “Confronting the Climate Crisis from Below: Memory and Politics at the Frontlines”; a series of presentations and discussions moderated by Rosanne Kennedy from Australian National University, with presentations from Macarena Gómez-Barris, Jaskiran Dhillon and Renato Redentor Constantino.

On July 11th and July 12th, the Working Groups, Regional Groups and National Networks have organised a series of panels too. On both days, there will be 5 timeslots, each with multiple simultaneous sessions and covering a large number of topics.
