New FASoS teaching and learning events (incl CPD), in November

Announcing five new FASoS CPD events:

  • Workshop ‘challenging situations in online teaching and learning’, on 11 November
  • Workshop ‘audience response tools in online teaching and learning’, on 25 November
  • Two basic feedback workshops, on 26 November and 16 December, and one advanced one (date TBA)

All but the advanced workshop will be open to all teaching staff. Please continue reading for more information and registration details.

‘Discussing challenging situations in online teaching and learning’

On 11 November, from 10.00 – 11.30, the FASoS Support Team Online T&L will hold a webinar on challenging online situations. This topic builds on an older list of challenging PBL situations, which we have adapted to the current situation. You will be asked to complete a short questionnaire to prepare, and to select which challenging situations you would like to discuss. The webinar will be hosted by Patrick Bijsmans and Mirko Reithler and is open to all teaching staff. Completion of the questionnaire and participation in the webinar are worth 2 CPD hours.

‘Using audience response tools in online teaching and learning’

On 25 November, from 14.00 – 15.00, the FASoS Support Team Online T&L will hold a webinar on using audience response tools in online teaching and learning. Audience response tools such as Mentimeter and Wooclap have gained a prominent position in on-campus education, but they can also foster student engagement in an online setting. The webinar will be hosted by Diede Diederiks and Sjoerd Stoffels and is open to all teaching staff. Participation in the webinar is worth 1 CPD hours.

‘Feedback workshops’

Again this year, John Harbord will lead two workshops on giving feedback on writing. The basic workshop will take place on 26 November, from 13.30 – 15.30, and be repeated on 16 December, from 13.30 – 15.30. Both sessions will be online. The workshops focus on responding to student writing, and will explore formative feedback and techniques to maximise student learning, with hands-on discussion exercises. The basic workshops are open to all teaching staff. They are worth 2 CPD hours.

The advanced workshop (TBA in January), is aimed at staff who have already attended the basic workshop. It focuses on the deeper questions, including who gives feedback to whom, when, where and why, and how these underpin differences such as formative/summative, and feedback/feedforward. Of interest to course coordinators, but also to those seeking a deeper understanding of feedback. This workshop is open to staff who have attended the basic workshop and are participating in CPD. The workshop is worth 2 CPD hours.
