Call for Programme Director Bachelor Arts and Culture

Are you dedicated to providing quality education across courses? Do you have affinity with the material taught in the BA Arts and Culture? Would you like to provide academic leadership and contribute to the quality assurance of the programme? If so, please consider applying for this role.

For the BA Arts and Culture, we are looking for a new (Associate) Programme Director, starting 1 January 2021, with the option of transitioning into the role of Programme Director as of 1 September 2021.

The BA Arts and Culture focuses on the understanding of key moments and ideas in the history of Western culture in a globalising world. Students study the intersection of different cultural domains (art, science/technology, media and politics) from an interdisciplinary perspective, drawing on theories and methods from the humanities and qualitative social sciences. The team of Programme Director and Associate Programme Director collaborates on providing strategic direction for the study programme, and on taking care of the day-to-day management of the programme, in consultation with many other stakeholders.

If so, consider applying for the vacancy of (Associate) Programme Director of the Bachelor Arts and Culture.

The Associate Programme Director has responsibilities in the following areas:

  1. Collaboration with the Programme Director on providing strategic direction to the program;
  2. Interaction with internal players such as the Board of Examiners, MarCom, Exam Office, Faculty Management, etc;
  3. Engagement in the FASoS quality care cycles;
  4. Curriculum coordination and development in response to both internal and external developments and procedures (f.e. through monitoring the evaluation and updating of courses); alignment of content and assessment;
  5. Coordination of the literature exam;
  6. Recruitment of new students to the programme on a yearly basis and evaluation of students applying for the Foundation Programme;
  7. Representative functions regarding PR, recruitment and alumni activities;
  8. Communication with students.

If taking over the role of Programme Director, your responsibilities will additionally include:

  1. Ensuring that the program operates within FASoS’ policies and procedures regarding quality standards, financial sustainability and workload for staff and students;
  2. Finance (management of the programme’s budget);
  3. Coordination of teaching staff and line management of teaching assistants;
  4. Informing, instructing and evaluating course coordinators and teaching assistants;
  5. Responsibility for the quality assurance of the program.

We are looking for an academic staff member who:

  • Is enthusiastic about teaching and has a vision for the organisation of educational and quality assurance practices in our Faculty;
  • Holds a PhD degree, BKO, and has prior experience with teaching in the programme;
  • Is an inspiring leader and team-player;
  • Is willing to go the extra mile to secure educational quality;
  • Has strong managerial skills

The selected candidate is expected to start on 1 January 2021. From January until September 2021, the selected candidate will work in collaboration with the current Programme Director, Alexandra Supper. If desired, upon a good evaluation the candidate can transition into the role of Programme Director on 1 September, at which point another Associate Programme Director will start. The remuneration for the position of APD is 500 solver hours per academic year. For the position of PD, the remuneration is 660 solver hours​ per academic year. The appointment for each role is for a three-year period.
