Opera Visit: A Quiet Place by Leonard Bernstein, on 9 December

Studium Generale and Opera Zuid are teaming up to offer students a unique opportunity to go the opera – at a quarter of the normal price! During this Bernstein Centennial year, Opera Zuid is the only European opera house performing A Quiet Place.

When: Sunday 9 December, 13.00.
Where: Theater aan het Vrijthof
Costs: €10 (only for students)

The opera starts at 14.00. Prior to the performance there is an introduction in English at 13.00. Students who register, also get the opportunity to have a look behind the scenes after the performance, and meet with the cast and the intendant of Opera Zuid, Waut Koeken.

The complex relationship between parent and child are central to the opera. When mother Dinah dies in an alcohol-induced car accident, an intense conflict arises between father Sam and his children. When Sam reads his wife’s old diary, he experiences their first years of marriage again. During an emotional quarrel, the son throws his mother’s diary into the air. In the midst of the scramble for shared memories, father and children suddenly realise how strong their love for each other is.
