This week, Patrick Bijsmans visited the University of Leeds (UK) to lead a masterclass on problem-based learning and student diversity on Monday, with a follow up drop in Q&A session on Tuesday.
Patrick was invited by the Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence (LITE), which organised the visit. LITE provides funding, time and support for current and future student education leaders to develop their profile and carry out research and innovation.
Patrick talked about the development and opportunities of problem-based learning (PBL) in the context of an increasingly diverse and international student body – and how this relates to staff training – but also about the flexibility that PBL can offer in an ever-changing society. In addition, he met several colleagues of the University of Leeds individually to discuss various forms of active learning.
Patrick was invited to lead the masterclass by Pro Dean for Student Education and Professor of Politics Simon Lightfoot and LITE.
