Poetry Night: Poetry in Action, on Tuesday 8 October

Poetry is on the rise! It is increasingly finding its way as part of present-day manifestations of our modern culture. Youngsters nowadays reflect on societal issues through spoken word. Poetry slams, spoken word performances, rap songs and Instagram poetry. The days of the elderly poet reciting in a solemn voice are long gone.

On Tuesday 8 October a poetry night takes place in UCM’s Common Room, Zwingelput 4, at 20.00. Entrance is free.

Literary scholar Kila van der Starre will give a crash course on reading and writing poetry, rapper Brohlin will explore the boundaries of the expressible, and the spoken word artists of Mensen Zeggen Dingen (translation: People Say Things) will make the beauty and power of language reverberate in your body, mind and heart.

Kila van der Starre is writing her PhD thesis on poetry off the page, amongst other things Instagram poetry, poetry in obituary notices, and street poetry. Brohlin Coumans is a 25-years old artist from Roermond and has been in love with language and hiphop since his childhood. Mensen Zeggen Dingen is one of the largest platforms for poetry and performance in the Netherlands (and Belgium).

Immerse yourself into the depths of the world of poetry and come to UCM to join this smashing poetry party!

This event is organised by Studium Generale, Letterkundig Centrum Limburg, Huis voor de Kunsten Limburg, Mensen Zeggen Dingen and UCM Poetry Society.
