Positive advice European Studies re-accreditation

From Wednesday 11 until Friday 13 December, an audit panel visited FASoS to evaluate the 4 programmes in the European Studies Cluster (BA ES, MA ES, EPA, ESST) for the NVAO (Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders) re-accreditation. The panel enjoyed the sessions with staff, students, alumni, and management which took place in an open atmosphere.

The panel concluded with positive and constructive feedback, and we are looking forward to the panel’s formal report with confidence.

The panel was especially impressed by the engagement of students and staff in the programmes and the responsiveness of staff to student issues. Moreover, the panel was impressed by the way we responded to the outcome of the last accreditation in 2013. They applauded our improvements in the bureaucratic, administrative, strategic and social aspects of the programmes.

The panel was also very impressed by our course books (“best practice!”) and the way we manage the balance between prescriptive (learning-line) and flexibility (options for students to choose) in our curricula (“impressive!”). In addition, they considered the quality assurance/management of assessment by the Board of Examiners as “exemplary for the Netherlands”.

In sum: they will advice the NVAO a positive evaluation on all standards for all four programs. It is standard practice that the NVAO follows the advice of the panel.

The NVAO will take a decision on re-accreditation in the summer of 2020.
