RMES student Chiara Russo publishes blog on EU’s response to COVID

The EU’s response to COVID-19: adapting the Emergency Support Instrument (ESI)‘ is the title of the recent blog post written by RMES student Chiara Russo on the EUFINACCO website (Financial Accountability in the EU), hosted by Paul Stephenson.

Over the next few months Chiara and fellow student Costanza Marcellino will be writing a number of posts to keep track of developments in the EU’s response to COVID-19 and budgetary implications thereof.

A previous post by former RMES student and PhD graduate Thomas Ewert entitled ‘The EU’s struggle to recover the proceeds of grand corruption‘ examined the recent publication by Transparency International EU of its report on asset restitution in Europe and questioned the effectiveness of the EU’s effort so far.

The research and writing of the blog posts is part of a broader project to build up the content of the EUFINACCO website, update materials and publications, and to develop the site as an on observatory for research on a range of institutional and policy issues related to EU budgetary expenditure, and where there is, therefore, a need for appropriate financial control mechanisms in place in order to be accountable to the EU taxpayer.

The activities are being financed thanks to a grant from the faculty’s Research Stimulation Fund (RSF).
