Sophie Vanhoonacker new FASoS dean

The UM Executive Board appointed Professor Sophie Vanhoonacker as the new dean of FASoS. On 1 January 2016 she will succeed Rein de Wilde, who was has been the acting dean since October 2005. From 1 September 2015 onwards Sophie will be a member of the FASoS Faculty Board and vice dean of the faculty.

According to the selection committee, Sophie Vanhoonacker is the ideal person to lead FASoS through a challenging period and will play an important role in strengthening the faculty. She is fully capable of bridging the gap between the different departments, faculties, and national and international partners. She knows the faculty and the university well, has a strong commitment to both education and research, and has extensive managerial experience. The committee also praised her vision and commitment to educational renewal, innovation, and HR policy.

Sophie Vanhoonacker studied in Leuven, Bruges, and Brussels in her native Belgium and obtained her PhD from Leiden University in 1998. She started her career in Maastricht in 1987 at the European Institute of Public Administration and has been affiliated with the faculty since 2002. She currently holds a Full Chair in Administrative Governance, is Jean Monnet Professor and head of Politics Department.
