Spoken Word Maastricht 2016 on 15 April

On Friday 15 April, 23.00-00.00, Boekhandel Dominicanen and Maastricht University Library will hold the event ‘Spoken Word Maastricht 2016‘ at the Dominican Church. This event will take place during the first edition of Museumnacht (Museum Night) Maastricht, a night filled with art, poetry and performances. Let your imagination be triggered by eight creative writers, poets and singer-songwriters.

“It was built of pure gold, and large enough to hold thousands of people. The floor was strewn with white sand, mingled with precious stones, amber and pearls. There were coral groves and crystal rocks, and sea gardens full of bright-coloured anemones, and seaweed, and tall waving grasses. Little fishes swam in and out, and there were caves and grottoes where the ocean nymphs dwelt.”

This is the description of Neptune’s castle by Marion Adams, Rosie M. Pitman and Brinsley Le Fanu (1904) only one example of how words can create a vivid, fictional image before your inner eye. Stories and myths are of all times.

At the Dominican church the young artists will perform their own written texts, based on themes of Ancient Greece. These books were chosen by the artists from the Special Collections of Maastricht University.

Do you feel like listening? Join the event at the Dominican Church, Dominicanerkerkstraat 1.
