Studienstiftung Scholarship for Mareike Smolka

The German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes) has awarded a PhD research scholarship to Mareike Smolka for her project on different actors’ conceptions of ‘responsibility’ in neuroscientific meditation research.

As part of her PhD trajectory, Mareike will spend the upcoming four months in a biomedical research institute in Caen, France.

She will conduct ethnographic field work in the Silver Santé Study, a Big Neuroscience project on the impact of meditation on healthy aging. She will explore the entanglement of ethical reflections and daily work practices of different actors involved in the project.

The German Academic Scholarship Foundation is Germany’s largest and most prestigious scholarship foundation. It awards scholarships to an average of 300 PhD candidates each year. The scholarship allows candidates to conduct their PhD research in a period of three years and offers generous support for research activities abroad.
