SURF Call for proposals on Open and online education 2019 launched

The SURF incentive scheme on Open and Online Education starts again. The Minister of Education, Culture and Science makes funding available to higher education institutions. The scheme gives room for projects in two pillars: Online education and Open learning materials. You can submit your project proposal until 17 December 2018.

Pillar Online education
Within this pillar, funding can be requested for the redesign of existing education or the development of new online forms of education. Project proposals must be in line with this year’s theme ‘online guidance and supervision of students’. Educational institutions can experiment with setting up online guidance for students and investigating what is effective in their own context.

Pillar Open learning materials
Within this pillar, funding is available for experimenting with the sharing and reuse of existing and open learning materials with colleagues in domain specific communities. The scheme encourages lecturers to jointly create and (re) use high-quality collections of open learning materials across institutional boundaries. Through collaboration they can increase the quality of the open learning materials and use their time more efficiently.

UM EduGrant community: for better proposals and sustainable projects
Together with EDLAB, Academic Affairs, faculty funding advisors and the University Library, we are currently building the EduGrant community within Maastricht University in which we share education grant opportunities and experiences. We aim to work towards stronger, innovative and sustainable projects, and join forces where applicable. We will provide guidance for proposal preparation and take care of procedural aspects (e.g. acquiring letter of intents from the executive board).

More information about submitting a project proposal, about the procedures and the assessment criteria can be found in the SURF information flyers on the incentive scheme Open and online education (in Dutch):

Or visit UM-pages for more information on successful UM projects in previous tenders and several aspects of open education:

Early in the upcoming academic year we will inform you on the UM road map for applying for this incentive scheme. In the meantime, you can contact your faculty funding advisor for more information (they will be guiding the submission process).
