In 2018 the International Mother Language Day will be celebrated on 21 February. The celebration is in cooperation with the Veldeke Mestreech foundation, which strives for the promotion of the Maastricht dialect. Because UM respects all mother languages, and therefore also the Maastricht dialect, all international students and staff members are invited to translate one specific Maastricht dialect sentence into their own language.
UM invites students and staff to translate the following sentence into their mother language: “Gruuts op mien Moojertaol!” (In English: “Proud of my Mother Language!”)

Maastricht University and Veldeke will spread all translations of the Maastricht sentence on posters throughout the city.
