Talk by Roberto Frega on workplace democracy, on 20 April

On Wednesday 20 April at 11.00 in GG76, room 0.16, the Department of Philosophy will host a talk by Roberto Frega (CNRS).

The title of the talk is “From workplace democracy to democratising work”.

Everybody is welcome to join. Please get in touch with Tullio Viola if you need more information or a zoom link for online attendance.

The talk sketches the contours of a realistic theory of workplace democracy. It urges political theorists to move from a conception of workplace democracy as a set of institutions modelled on the national state to democratising the workplace as a set of context-dependent incremental strategies to improve the democratic quality of existing workplaces. It takes inspiration from transition studies in democratic theory to propose a transitional approach to workplace democracy that acknowledges the social-embeddedness of democratic institutions in order to propose feasible trajectories for democratising different types of workplaces in different socio-economic environments.
