UM seeks student ambassadors

After a successful first run, Maastricht University’s International Student Ambassador Programme (ISAP) enters its second round. ISAP is seeking UM student ambassadors who would like to be paired with new incoming non-EU students who start their bachelor’s or master’s in February 2015. If you are interested, please send your CV and a short letter of motivation until Wednesday 21 January 2015 to info-isap@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

International newcomers often face a hard time settling in due to the wealth of information and new impressions awaiting them when coming to Maastricht. Therefore, ISAP aims to facilitate a smoother integration of new students into university life, as well as to create thriving interaction between international students and Dutch society.

Becoming an ambassador means to be the first contact person in Maastricht for new-arriving students. You will navigate your students through the jungle of information and provide them with first-hand valuable information about university life and the city of Maastricht. In return, you will have the chance to meet people from many different nationalities both within and outside of the EU, to learn more about their cultures, and maybe even study a new language. Previous experience also shows that becoming and ambassador will not only add to your personal development but also improve your international profile on the job market.

Who?

  • Applicants need to have studied at UM for at least 1 year. In this run, we especially look for third-year bachelor’s and master’s students. However, second-year students are encouraged to apply as well.
  • Availability from February till June 2015 is required.
  • Applicants should be willing and able to dedicate 4-5 hours a week on average.
  • Interested students should have some knowledge about their faculty and other services relevant to students (SSC, library, sports facilities, etc.).
  • We particularly welcome applications from Dutch students, but having Dutch nationality is not a must.

Why?

Participants will have the possibility to get in contact with people from various different cultures, functioning as first contact person in case of questions. This bears a certain level of responsibility but will also add tremendously to students’ personal development. As preparation for their job, student ambassadors will receive professional coaching in different areas such as communication, inter-cultural awareness, and psychological training. At the end of the project, all participants will be awarded an official certificate by the Executive Board of Maastricht University.

Interested?

Please send your CV and a short letter of motivation (max. 1 page) until Wednesday, 21 January 2015 to info-isap@maastrichtuniversity.nl.

The interview rounds are scheduled for 22, 23, and 26 January 2015. Please indicate any preferences in your application. Interviews via Skype are possible in case applicants are not physically present in Maastricht.
