Do you have the educational experience and procedural sensitivity that enables you to formulate balanced judgements and recommendations?
Then consider the following vacancy for General Member of the FASoS Board of Examiners (BoE).
The Board of Examiners (BoE) has the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Ensuring the quality of examinations and exams;
- Setting guidelines and instructions within the framework of the Education and Examination Regulations, to assess and determine examination and exam results;
- Handling individual student cases and requests (e.g. appeals, cases of fraud/plagiarism, exemptions for one or more examinations);
- Providing a supporting infrastructure to the professional community of examiners at FASoS.
In order to carry out its tasks, the BoE appoints the examiners and in general monitors the quality of assessment; it advises on assessment policy; it supports the management in creating assessment quality culture and maintaining high standards of examination. It also supports educational management in the preparation of accreditation procedures with regard to the dimensions of quality assurance of assessment. An independent functioning of the Board of Examiners is considered important and is enshrined in the Higher Education and Research Act (WHW).
Similarly to the other BoE members, a main task of the General BoE Member is to take part in the monthly BoE meetings and deliberations. You will prepare opinion statements according to the agenda and the provided background materials of the meetings, present reasoned arguments and views during the discussions, advise on the advantages and disadvantages of certain courses of action, and provide input for the BoE policy documents and formal position papers. Furthermore, the General Member presides over a number of graduation ceremonies. Occasionally you may be asked to take part in hearings regarding individual cases (e.g. plagiarism and appeals).
Considering the current composition of the BoE, a new member of the BoE should preferably come from the following programmes: BA ES, MA ES, MA EPA, and RMES. For this position, we are looking for a colleague from the academic staff who:
- Is enthusiastic about teaching and the organisation of educational and assessment practices in our Faculty;
- Holds a PhD title, is appointed on a tenured position, and has taught for at least 2 years at FASoS;
- Has affinity with the legal aspects of educational processes e.g. the Dutch legislative framework (WHW), the UM assessment policy and Exam Regulations, and formal procedures of the FASoS educational policy.
Optional/additional expectations:
- Skills with regard to the statistical analysis and display of data is a pre.
- If the candidate has experience with participation in other FASoS educational committees/organs, this will also be regarded as an advantage.
The selected candidate is expected to take his/her function per 1 September 2020. The remuneration previewed for this position is 60 solver hours on a yearly basis.
