Vacancy: programme director Research Master European Studies

FASoS has a vacancy for the position of programme director of the Research Master European Studies. The selected candidate is expected to start in September 2020. The remuneration previewed for this position is 225 solver hours.

The Research Master European Studies (RMES) is a two-year international Master of Science Degree Programme in European Studies, and currently ranks best European Studies programme in the Netherlands (Keuzegids 2018, 2019). It is a multi-disciplinary, research-oriented master’s programme focusing on historical, cultural, political, social, and economic aspects of the process of European integration. The RMES provides tailored research training for students of different national, academic and disciplinary backgrounds, broadening their knowledge and understanding of contemporary Europe in a changing global order. A special emphasis is placed on the acquisition of advanced knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and their application to students’ individual research projects.

Between 28-35 students are annually enrolled in the programme (year 1 and year 2), which comprises 25 courses in total. The RMES offers a double degree track with the University of Cologne, an exchange programme, and extended internships (year 2). The RMES will be re-accredited in the academic year 2020/2021.

The programme director of the RMES has responsibilities in the following areas:

  1. Giving strategic direction to the programme;
  2. Coordination of academic staff and interaction with internal stakeholders, such as in the OMT, with the Board of Examiners, MarCom, etc;
  3. Curriculum Development in response to both internal and external developments;
  4. Quality Assurance (f.e. through monitoring the evaluation and updating of courses, managing of re-accreditation processes, alignment of content and assessment);
  5. The exchange and internship programme in the third semester;
  6. Finance (management of budget);
  7. Admission of new students to the programme on a yearly basis in cooperation with the Master Admissions Office;
  8. External representation (e.g. alumni, University of Cologne and other partners).

We are looking for an academic staff member who:

  • Holds a (associate)professorship;
  • Has (substantial) knowledge of, and been involved in teaching or the coordination of RMES courses in the past;
  • Has experience with the re-accreditation of MA or BA programmes;
  • Has strong managerial skills;
  • Has strong research credentials;
  • Has a vision on the relation between research and teaching;
  • Is an inspiring leader and team-player;
  • Holds the BKO certificate;
  • Is willing to go the extra mile on the road of educational improvements.
