Vacancy: ‘Valorisation prize’ committee member

FASoS is looking for an enthusiastic colleague (scientific personnel) with affinity for the topic of ‘valorisation’ to join the prize committee for two consecutive years.

Interested? Please send an email including your motivation for applying to Kim van Honk by 5 October 2022.

Your application will be reviewed by the OTO and associate dean of research, who will nominate the committee members. Nominations will be validated by the Faculty Board.

Valorisation or ‘valorisatie’ is a term used to describe the contribution which research adds to society, and the process of delivering this contribution. It covers many forms of societal engagement, such as appearances in the media, engaging in the public debate, providing consultancy services, or helping with the broader processes of discussion and self-reflection in society.

Valorisation can happen on different levels (local, regional, national and international), with diverse partners and communities, and in different formats (workshops, stakeholder seminars, websites etc.). Valorisation is increasingly valued in Dutch and European science policies, and has become a criterion for evaluating research proposals in some funding schemes.

To further stimulate the topic of ‘valorisation’, FASoS awards an annual ‘valorisation prize’. A committee consisting of four FASoS members is responsible for choosing the prize winner(s). Members of the prize committee cannot submit a prize application during the 2 years of their membership. There are no solver hours for this task. The selected candidates are expected to start in November 2022.

The prize committee will meet around that time to plan the call for applications, and again in early 2023 to discuss the applications that are received. The prize committee will award the ‘valorisation’ prize at a research event in 2023.
