The webinar entitled “How are technologies abandoned?” was a virtual version of a session of a cancelled conference in Utrecht Eu-SPRI 2020. The webinar falls into technology decline/exit research agenda – a growing research topic in STS and sustainability transition studies. Seven presentations were held and 17 academics participated, both ‘veterans’ and newcomers to the topic.
The webinar was an opportune intermediary moment of exchange and cross-pollination before the big conferences IST-2020 and 4S/EASST-2020. Participants agreed to continue to think along on this topic in the coming months.
The webinar was organised by Zahar Koretsky (PhD candidate at FASoS, Department of Society Studies), Harro van Lente (Prof. Science and Technology Studies, Department of Society Studies) and Peter Stegmaier (Assistant Prof. at the University of Twente).
